| On the canyon-slashed slopes of the Pajarito Plateau and nestled in the canyon bottoms are the remnants of many cliff houses and pueblo style dwellings of 13th-century Pueblo Indians, the most accessible being the ruins in Frijoles Canyon. Remnants of dwellings carved into the soft cliffs formed of compressed volcanic ash, or tuff, and their masonry extensions extend along the base of the northern wall of the canyon for approximately 2 miles. |
